Classrooms and Study Spaces
Jiangsu University of Science and Technology is well-equipped with modern and intelligent classrooms, a modern library, a student activity centre, a teaching building, a gymnasium, a laboratory centre and other advanced teaching and research facilities. The dormitories are well-equipped for international students and international students have the same rights as Chinese students to use classrooms and study areas.
Laboratories
The university has a complete system of well-equipped teaching facilities and running conditions. There are 14 national and provincial experimental and practical teaching centres, including 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centres, 12 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centres, and 10 provincial and ministerial level key laboratories. All the teaching and research laboratories of the university are open to Chinese and foreign students, except for a small number of laboratories which are not suitable for opening due to confidentiality, special functions, special technical requirements and special research purposes, and all other laboratories are fully open to Chinese and foreign students on the basis of completing the experimental courses and scientific research tasks in the teaching plan.
Laboratory Construction
The professional layout of laboratories is reasonable, which can well meet the needs of experimental teaching and play an important role in the training activities of high-quality engineering and technical talents. The university has 36 experimental teaching centres (laboratories), including 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centres, 1 national off-campus practical education base for university students and 15 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centres; there are teaching guarantee platforms such as computing centre, network centre, analysis and testing centre and engineering training centre. The laboratory area is 123,632.24 square metres, with an average laboratory area of 6.70 square metres per student. The university has 28916 sets of teaching and research instruments and equipment, with a total value of about 426 million yuan, including 633 sets of large instruments and equipment over 100,000 yuan, with a total value of 231,458,000 yuan, and 218 sets of imported instruments and equipment, with a total value of 36.18 million yuan.
Laboratory System
The university has issued a series of documents such as the "Management Measures for Laboratory Opening in Jiangsu University of Science and Technology" to actively promote undergraduate students' access to laboratories and improve the guarantee mechanism for teaching and research laboratories to be open to undergraduate students. Teaching laboratories are open on a regular basis and by appointment on holidays according to the teaching schedule. Research laboratories are open to students participating in teachers' research projects and graduation designs (theses). Comprehensive evaluation of the efficiency of the use of large instruments and equipment is carried out every year to promote the opening and sharing of instrument and equipment resources for Chinese and foreign students. According to the Basic Standards of Experimental Teaching of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, the university has made clear provisions for the whole process of experimental teaching, and various experimental teaching centres have better supported the development of experimental teaching. The university has actively improved the management mechanism of laboratory opening, and formed a fully open experimental teaching mode in which students independently choose the time and content of experiments by using the platform of intelligent experimental teaching management system. All the science and technology innovation platforms owned by the university at the provincial and ministerial levels and above are open to Chinese and foreign students.
Library and Internet Information Resources
Jiangsu University of Science and Technology has a rich variety and sufficient number of library and online information resources to meet the learning needs of students from different countries and training levels; after enrolling in the university, international students enjoy the same rights as Chinese students in terms of library borrowing, one-stop searching and downloading of various electronic information resources.
The university library consists of the East Campus Library, South Campus Library and West Campus Library, with a total area of about 26,000 square meters and more than 4,400 reading seats. The East Campus Library is located in the main campus on the bank of the ancient canal, with an area of 10,578 square metres and was opened in September 1988; the South Campus Library is located at the foot of the scenic Nanshan Mountain and is based on the library of the former Jianghai Trade School, with an area of more than 8,000 square metres; the West Campus Library is adjacent to the majestic Runyang Bridge and is based on the library of the former Sericulture Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with an area of 8,035 square metres. The West Campus Branch Library is adjacent to the magnificent Runyang Bridge and is built on the basis of the library of the former Institute of Sericulture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with a building area of 8,035 square metres. At present, the new campus library with a construction area of about 32,000 square metres is under construction, and the library's service functions will be further improved upon the completion of the new library.
The library has a total of 160,659,902 volumes of paper documents, 1,192 Chinese and foreign language periodicals and 1,384 newspapers, 45 newspapers and 77 newspapers, and has achieved the "unified collection and editing" and "universal borrowing and returning" of books from the three campuses. The library has 82 searchable databases in Chinese and foreign languages (measured by the smallest sales unit divided by the supplier) open to all students and teachers, and provides reading support services for more than 1.2 million e-books (including publications similar to books) and 224,000 e-journals. The Library also actively participates in the China Association of University Literature Assurance System (CALIS), Jiangsu Province University Literature Assurance System (JALIS) and regional co-construction and sharing, providing a strong guarantee of literature and information resources for the teaching, research and discipline construction of the University.
